Scott Johnson - Guitar/Banjo

Scott is so steeped in music that it is actually difficult to find blood in his music-stream. His Dad was a bass player in a 60s rock band and his Grandad bought him his first guitar when he was just seven.  Dad taught him the basics and he progressed at secondary school, spending lunch breaks in the music room and forming a covers band with fellow students ,one of whom, drummer Karen Barlow was later to become Karen Johnson when she and Scott married.

In the late nineties Scott, along with wife, Karen, got his first taste of jazz playing bass with the Bourbon Street Roof Raisers. They moved on to form their own covers band and were very successful playing pubs and clubs in the North West with Scott as lead singer and rhythm guitarist. He further enhanced his reputation by playing and singing with a number of other bands and now plays solo acoustic gigs in the local pub circuit.

Invited to join the Dixie Beats on guitar he discovered a natural talent for the banjo and is enjoying, as he puts it “picking up where he left off, improving my jazz skills and playing great music with old friends”. The band are absolutely delighted to have him – his feel for swing, understanding of chords and vocal skills make him an invaluable asset.
