STEVE ALLEN - BASS

My first musical memory was being asked to sing a solo at primary school.

Secondary school introduced me to Brass Bands.

I started to play cornet aged 11 and At 15, was principal cornet  of Bolton Borough Band.

My moment of divine inspiration was when I failed an audition for Wingate’s Brass Band. At the same time I had started going to clubs and had seen some live performers. I decided to start a band and the easiest instrument (I thought) was bass guitar. That Band MIRAGE played cabaret clubs for 14 years. When MIRAGE decided to finish I took a break from the bass and started playing trumpet with a versatile 10 piece band. The lead trumpet in that band then started a Jazz band and invited me to join has the bass player, an offer I declined only to take up the position 10 years later. I still play with the ‘Bourbon Street Roof Raisers’. more recently having watched ‘Persuasion’ a Rock Covers Band I was offered the vacated bass slot, an offer I had no hesitation in accepting. I am really excited about now being a member of THE DIXIE BEATS and looking forward to new musical adventures.
